Architecture: Converted residence

I love conversion projects. I know architects are supposed to love a clean slate and creating from scratch, but I can't help it. There's something so novel about using a building for a non-intended purpose.

Anyway, conversion projects usually go in the direction toward residences. A church turned into a house, factory converted to lofts, boat into house.  But every once in a while I'll pass by a house that has been turned into a business.

I don't think it happens much since 1) typical house construction is pretty shoddy so there's not much point to preserving it and 2) building codes are much stricter for businesses so even if the original house was well-constructed, it would probably still need modification.

That established, I still think it would be lovely to convert a house into a sweet little architecture studio. Especially because I like to focus on residential architecture.

I don't know what type of business is practiced inside, and it's certainly not a sophisticated, publication-ready conversion.  But I like that traces of domesticity are still evident.  Anyway, this is what I think it would be like if it were an architecture studio:
