Non-architectural detail: Reduce dye transfer to shoes

I have a pair of jeans that turn everything blue; the back of my messenger bag, the tips of my fingernails, the bottom of my jacket, and the tops of my shoes.  While adjusting the hem of the jeans, I happened upon a strategy that may at least help with the shoes.  It's so simple that I can't believe I didn't think of it before.  Use bias tape on the inside of the hem.  Like so:
Assuming the bias tape is colorfast, dye transfer to the shoes should be a thing of the past!  Now I just need to figure out a solution for my fingernails...
