Shopping: Season for shopping

Tomorrow is the first of May, and you know what that means.  It's time to shop for appliances?  That's what this little clipping claims.

I saved this scrap of paper for so long that I can't remember where it came from, or if the information is even accurate anymore.  Does this type of 'shopping schedule' apply to our world anymore?
